Natural Stone Patios in Richmond, VA
Over 35 years of masonry experience · Fully insured · Five-year workmanship guarantee
I install all kinds of natural stone: bluestone, flagstone, limestone and fieldstone. Whether you want neat cut pieces in a set pattern or irregular stone fitted by hand, I lay all of that. We're a family-run business working in Richmond, the Fan District, the Museum District and Henrico.

Choosing the Right Stone
Each stone has its own colors, thickness and texture, and each one suits a house and a garden differently. We bring samples to the site visit and talk through how each option would look next to your brick, siding and planting, and how it would sit on your ground. You make the choice. We'll tell you plainly what each option involves.
Planning the Layout
We mark out the patio on site so you can see the size and shape before any digging starts. We set the finished height against door thresholds, steps and the lawn, and we plan the pattern to suit the stone, from cut pieces in a set pattern to random pieces fitted by hand.
Excavation and Base Preparation
We dig out to the depth the stone and base need, remove the soil and level the ground. Then we build up the base in layers and compact each one. How deep we dig and how the base is made depend on the stone you've chosen and the ground on your property.
Drainage
We set the patio with a fall so surface water runs away from the house. Where the ground holds water or slopes toward the building, we discuss the options with you before work starts and include the work you agree to in your quote.
Laying the Stone
I lay each piece by hand, checking levels and gaps as I go. Cut stone is set in its pattern. Irregular stone is fitted piece by piece so the joints run evenly.
Finishing the Joints
Joints are finished with mortar or a jointing material suited to the stone and the base beneath it. We pack them neatly, clean off the surface and leave the work area tidy.
Every Job Is Built for Its Site
There's no single method for every natural stone patio. The thickness of the stone, the soil, the slope and how you'll use the space all decide how it's built. We explain the method we recommend for your patio before you agree to anything.
